Fireplace Surround Makeover

Here I am again apologizing for waiting so long to put up another post.  I've been working on the road lately, and haven't gotten a whole lot of projects done.  When I do squeeze a project in, I hurry to get in in my space for sale and forget to click before and after pictures.  I still don't have any really blog worthy pictures, but I figured something is better than nothing.

This fireplace surround had beautiful details I really wanted to accentuate with a makeover.  The finish was pretty rough and didn't bring out the true beauty of this piece.

Yes, this is where I painted.  I know, what a mess!
A pretty sloppy finish.

Like I said, pretty rough.

I sanded the top layer of finish to get to the wood.

I wiped the whole thing down with denatured alcohol to clean it up.  Then I sanded the top part of the mantle down below the shiny finish.  I didn't re-stain.  The top was sealed with two coats of Miss Mustard Seed's Hemp Oil.
The rest was painted in Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint using the color Grain Sack.  Grain Sack is a beautiful white with gray undertones.  It's one of my favorites.  A little distressing and a couple of coats of the hemp oil, and voila!

This is the only picture I've got right now.  My husband snapped this one for me at the shop and texted it to me.  I'll add some better detail shots after I get back home.  That is, if it doesn't sell before I get back!

Update:  It did sell before I got back home!

Thanks so much for stopping by.
