Day 9 - Wisdom's Invitation

As I sit here writing today's 31 day post, I ask myself, "What was I thinking?!".  I kind of feel like when I get on the treadmill or elliptical machine and urge myself on by watching the percentage complete stats.  So today I'm 29% complete with this challenge I've set before myself.  I can do this.  Just push through to the next goal.  I'll make that one 50%, and then talk myself on after that.  As you can see today's post is coming up rather late.  Well, it is Sunday, and I just wanted  my day of rest.  So here we go.

Not only is wisdom calling to us, "she" is setting up a banquet for us.  How cool is that!  Verses 1 - 6 state,

Wisdom has built her spacious house with seven pillars.  She has prepared a great banquet, mixed the wines, and set the table.  She has sent her servants to invite everyone to come.  She calls out from the heights overlooking the city.  "Come home with me," she urges the simple.  To those without good judgment, she says, "Come, eat my food, and drink the wine I have mixed.  Leave your foolish ways behind, and begin to live; learn how to be wise." (New Living Translation)

What an honor to be invited to this banquet.  Are we attending?  Or are we too busy to be bothered?  When I read this it made me think of the New Testament story of the great feast.  Here it is in Luke 14:15 - 24.

Hearing this, a man sitting at the table with Jesus exclaimed, "What a privilege it would be to have a share in the Kingdom of God!" (New Living Translation)

Jesus replied with this illustration: "A man prepared a great feast and sent out many invitations.  When all was ready, he sent his servant around to notify the guests that it was time for them to come.  But they all began making excuses.  One said he had just bought a field and wanted to inspect it, so he asked to be excused.  Another said he had just bought five pair of oxen and wanted to try them out.  Another had just been married, so he said he couldn't come."

"The servant returned and told his master what they had said.  His master was angry and said, 'Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the city and invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.'  After the servant had done this, he reported, 'There is still room for more.'  So his master said, 'Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full.  For none of those I invited first will get even the smallest taste of what I had prepared for them.'" (New Living Translation)

I know that's a lot to take in, but I thought the whole passage was important to share.  If I want to partake of the feast wisdom has prepared, I better have my ears open for the invitation.  And I better be willing to stop what I'm doing to attend.  God has everything there for the taking.  We just need to want it and seek it.  I am asking my Father to give me more hunger, so that I will be more than ready to come to the feast!

As usual, there are many other "gems" in this chapter that I am not covering. Please be sure to read it all and listen to what the Father has to say to you.

Thanks for dropping by.

Blessings!
Jeanne

I really like reading what you have to say about the same things I am reading and thinking about! I too will pray for God to give me the hunger, lead me to Wisdom's table.

Just beautiful, as always. I love that the Bible offers us such richness, that "feasting" on wisdom is real, not a life of deprivation like so many people think. Excellent post!
